The World is Full of Beautiful Things Like Butterfly Wings

Eastern Tiger Swallowtail

I was so excited I could hardly breathe, when I happened upon a butterfly suspended from a branch in that state between emerging and flying. I rushed for the camera while hubby kept a watchful eye. He must have already moved a bit because I could not see anything from which he emerged . Although his wings were folded together, I made photos. Then we dipped our fingers in sugar water and tried to induce him to move onto Roger's  finger so we could see his beautiful widespread  wings. He was still quite vulnerable but kept moving. No Photo! We put him on a daylily and let him continue morphing while photographing and observing him closely.  Entranced, I savored every detail.  I noticed his legs, to about his knees,  are the same color as his body.  I could see his proboscis and eyes clearly.  Part of his back between his wings looked furry.  How delightful!

May serenity circle on silent wings and
catch the whisper of the wind.
